The Fulbright TechGirls Scholarships 2026 are now officially open, offering one of the most powerful fully funded STEM exchange opportunities in the world for young women. Backed by the U.S. Department of State, this highly selective program is designed to inspire, educate, and empower girls who aspire to build future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Far more than a typical summer program, TechGirls is a global leadership initiative that combines advanced STEM learning, cultural exchange, mentorship, and community impact. In 2026, 111 outstanding young women from 37 countries will travel to the United States for an immersive experience that has helped past participants gain admission to top universities, launch innovative community projects, and pursue high-impact technology careers.
What Is the Fulbright TechGirls Program?
The Fulbright TechGirls program is a U.S. government-funded exchange initiative that connects young women with leading technology institutions, female STEM professionals, and peers from around the world. The goal is not only to strengthen technical skills, but also to build confidence, leadership ability, and long-term networks that support girls in becoming innovators and changemakers in their home countries.
The program combines a short but intensive in-person experience in the United States with an extended seven-month mentorship and leadership development phase, ensuring that participants continue learning and creating impact long after returning home.
What the Fulbright TechGirls Scholarship Covers
The Fulbright TechGirls Scholarships 2026 are fully funded, removing all major financial barriers for selected participants. Scholars receive comprehensive support throughout the program, allowing them to focus entirely on learning, collaboration, and personal growth.
The scholarship covers international airfare to and from the United States, accommodation throughout the program, daily meals, health insurance, and all academic and training costs. Participants also receive full access to workshops, labs, university facilities, leadership training sessions, and cultural activities.
In addition to the in-person experience, scholars benefit from a structured seven-month mentorship program that pairs them with professional mentors who guide them in career exploration, leadership development, and the design of community-based STEM projects.
What the U.S. Experience Looks Like
Selected TechGirls scholars will participate in a 23-day immersive program in the United States, beginning at Virginia Tech University, where they engage in hands-on STEM learning and collaborative projects. Participants also visit major U.S. innovation hubs such as Seattle, Austin, or Denver, gaining exposure to real-world technology careers and startup ecosystems.
The program concludes in Washington, D.C., where scholars interact with global leaders, policymakers, and fellow changemakers, reinforcing the program’s emphasis on leadership, civic engagement, and international cooperation.
